How to Choose the Right Backdrop for Your Christmas Event
When you’re planning a Christmas event, the backdrop can easily become one of those things that gets added to the list at the last minute. But it often ends up being one of the most photographed parts of the event.
Whether it’s behind a stage, framing a welcome area or creating a spot for guests to gather and take photos, the right backdrop can help bring the whole event together. And it doesn’t necessarily need to be enormous or overly elaborate to have an impact.
We’ve pulled together a few things we consider when designing backdrops for corporate Christmas events.

Start with what the backdrop needs to do
What is the purpose of your backdrop? Is it a photo moment, or an entrance feature? Does it need to incorporate branding? Or is it for ambience and decoration? Knowing why you are choosing certain design features can help you narrow down what type of backdrop you need.
Consider the scale of the space
Understanding your venue and what will work or, more importantly what will not work, can make or break your event! Sometimes smaller is better as it works better with the scale of your venue or intimacy of your event. Larger venues may require more width, height or layered elements to hold their own visually.
You don't have to use traditional Christmas colours
These days there are so many ways we can use colours to celebrate Christmas. Think burgundy, mocha, ivory, green, black, jewel tones in addition to traditional red, green and gold. Colour gives us an opportunity to reflect your branding and work with your venue and style of event.
Think in layers rather than adding more "Christmas"
Let’s start with drapery and then move onto the props we can use to make your backdrop really pop! Floral features or disco balls, signage and plinths can really help your backdrop to feel more sophisticated than filling the space with just Christmas props.
Using disco balls and preserved florals really made this purple drapery backdrop pop!
Make your branding feel part of the design
Your branding is so important when it comes to communicating your values as a business. We don’t just stick a logo onto something at the end, we weave your branding into the entire backdrop.
Don't forget the practical side
Access, installation times, event duration, venue restrictions, pack-down and dimensions - all important considerations we navigate when designing your backdrop. Our process includes consultation, design, installation and pack-down, so we across all aspects of how to deliver (literally) your perfect backdrop.
Not sure where to start?
We know that not every event needs a completely bespoke installation, so this year we've put together a series of Christmas event styling collections as a starting point. They range from smaller drapery backdrops through to larger-scale custom installations, with florals, props, signage and styling able to be added depending on your space and event.
